I am such a lucky doula, because as a birth photographer, I also get the opportunity to work with other doulas, which is a rarity. These are Michelle MacLean's hands, providing comfort, as well as doing an acupressure technique. Skilled hands. The doula featured in my most recent birth photos, is Candice, of Cherish Childbirth. I often recommend her prenatal classes, as they are amazingly informative.
When I arrived at this home birth Mama was playing the piano. The mood was peaceful, with candles lit and soft music on in the background. Mama was surrounded by love. Her partner, her doula, and two of her sisters were there, caring for her.
Her strength brought tears to her sister's eyes.
Mama gets into the birth pool.
Her partner encourages her to keep breathing deeply.
When it was time for baby to be born, two more sisters arrived.
Grandma and Grandpa arrive! High five!
I had to take a photo of all the shoes when I was leaving!
I feel very lucky to be present for the first moments of two people meeting their baby for the first time.
Childbirth provided the drama I craved, the thrill of peeking over the primal edge of creation, the rush of the unexpected. - PEGGY VINCENT, Baby Catcher
I love doing maternity sessions all around Vancouver. It makes it new and fresh for me, and makes my life interesting! It's also really cool to discover, through a location, what my clients interests are. Usually we go to a place they like, or that is special because it's near their home. Crab Park in Vancouver was a neat shoot, because it incorperates the ocean, an industrial landscap, and a bit of nature, too, all in downtown!
I attended a beautiful, and 100% natural hospital birth (with widwives) yesterday, and we arrived by Modo, the car co-op! My clients are very environmentally conscious (I have the coolest clients), and value natural childbirth, eating local, growing your own food, and other things that I also care about. Go read Lisa's blog, Spokesmama, for more about parenting in Vancouver, BC with these philosophies in mind.
